Road and trail safety ambassadors host large truck safety events

The City of Toronto's road and trail safety ambassadors will host four large
truck safety events during the month of July to encourage safe road use by
truck drivers and cyclists.

Each year, approximately 37 per cent of fatal motor vehicle and bike collisions
involve large vehicles.

The demonstrations will be held at the following locations from 11 a.m. to 2
p.m. on the following dates:

July 4 - York Civic Centre, 2700 Eglinton Ave. W.

July 11 - Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.

July 18 - Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St.

July 23 - Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W.

Cyclists will learn first hand what a truck driver sees and doesn't see while
driving, as well as safety tips on how to share the road safely with trucks.

The Road and Trail Safety Ambassador program is a City of Toronto and Toronto
Cycling Committee initiative that provides safety information and raises
environmental awareness for all road and trail users -- cyclists, pedestrians,
motorists and in-line skaters.

The road and trail safety ambassadors thank this year's sponsors: City of
Toronto, Province of Ontario, Friends of the Environment Foundation, Road
Safety Value Partnership (RSVP), Mountain Equipment Co-op and the Mirror and
the Guardian newspapers.
