Sponsors keep it cool at Designs in Ice 2001

Toronto Special Events - Now in its 19th year Designs in Ice, December
27 and 28, 2001 is pleased to welcome back Scotiabank as Presenting Sponsor,
and to announce the addition of Alliance Atlantis as the Thematic Partner.

Scotiabank's consistent spirited support and generosity ensures events like
Designs in Ice are free and accessible for everyone to enjoy!

"It's quite astounding what these talented ice carvers can create from a huge
block of ice," said Pat Minicucci, Senior Vice-President, Toronto Region,
Scotiabank. "Designs in Ice has become a favourite winter tradition for
thousands of Torontonians and visitors alike. We are delighted to be Presenting
Sponsor for the second year in a row."

This year's exciting theme, established in partnership with Alliance Atlantis
Motion Picture distribution, coincides with the December release of the major
motion picture The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, produced by
New Line Cinema.

"Alliance Atlantis is thrilled to be a part of Toronto's Designs in Ice," said
Susan Smythe, Alliance Atlantis Vice-President, Publicity & Promotion.
"Anticipation for the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the
Ring has been sweeping the city for months now. This unprecedented movie event
is truly a visual work of art -- the fantastical imagery and indelible
characters should ignite the imagination of audiences everywhere and we are
sure they will inspire truly magical ice sculptures."

Toronto Special Events would also like to thank The Colony Hotel Toronto for
their commitment to the Designs in Ice event.

During this two-day competition, approximately 15 ice carving teams will chisel
and shape close to 45,000 lbs of ice into magnificent sculptures.

Nathan Phillips Square will be transformed into the mythical land of
Middle-earth from The Lord of the Rings. Prizes will be awarded for the top
three sculptures and the People's Choice Award on Friday, December 28 at 5:30
p.m. The Awards Ceremony will be part of a family skating party featuring live
music from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to bring their skates and
join in the fun!
