City of Toronto Responds to Victoria Day Care Closing

Community & Neighbourhood Services - The City of Toronto's Children's
Services Division announced today that it will work with Victoria Day Care and
Family Services to ensure families currently in care with the agency continue
to receive the services they need.

The board of directors of Victoria Day Care and Family Services, which had a
service contract with the City of Toronto to provide child care services for
families eligible for fee subsidy, has announced its intention to cease
operations.

City staff will be seeking a new service provider to deliver a home child care
program serving approximately the 190 children who had been receiving child
care services through the agency, located at 529 Jarvis Street.

The City of Toronto regrets today's announcement by the board of directors of
Victoria Day Care and Family Services. The agency closed a licensed group child
care centre for 82 children when a strike by its child care staff began on June
30, 2000. At that time, the City assisted affected families in finding
alternate care.

Families affected by today's announcement may call Elaine Blizzard of the
Children's Services Division, at 416-392-1464 for assistance and information.
