Media Advisory: City of Toronto calls for improvements to new municipal act

Date:
Wednesday, November 21

Time:
11:00 a.m.

Place:
Standing Committee on General Government, Committee Room 1
1st floor, (west side) Main Legislature Building, Queen's Park

City of Toronto Councillor David Miller, Chair of the Council Reference Group
on the City Charter campaign, will advise the Standing Committee on General
Government that Bill 111, the proposed new municipal act, is a promising
beginning but it does not meet the needs of the province's large, urban
municipalities.

The City is calling on the government to enact unique charters for Toronto and
other cities, or at least enact a Cities Act that recognizes the needs and
responsibilities of larger municipalities so they can be more competitive in
the 21st century.

Councillor Miller will be available to answer any questions the committee may
have after his presentation.
