TABIA presents seminar on commercial property tax and assessment

Economic Development-- Members of the media are invited to attend a
Commercial Property Tax and Assessment Seminar presented by the Toronto
Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) and the City's Economic
Development Division. The seminar is designed to de-mystify the perplexing
world of commercial taxes and explain their effects on Toronto's small business
community.

Date:
Monday, October 29

Time:
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Location:
Toronto City Hall
100 Queen St. W.
Second floor, Committee Room 2

The seminar will focus on recent changes to commercial taxation and assessment,
and will clarify misunderstood terms such as "clawbacks", "capping" and
"current value assessment" (CVA). Toronto BIA members will hear from several
experts, including:
  • Larry Hummel, Vice President, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation
  • Michael Bowman, Solicitor, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt
  • Doug Jure, Chair, Yonge-Bloor-Bay Association Task Force on Property Taxes

Response to this seminar has been overwhelming and a lively question-and-answer
period is anticipated following the presentations.
