Media Advisory: The Sierra Club and City announce Toronto's first Car Free Day
The Sierra Club and the City of Toronto will hold a news conference on
Wednesday, September 19 to announce Toronto's first official Car Free Day.
Toronto City Councilor Olivia Chow and Sierra Club Eastern Canada Chapter
Director Dan McDermott will be on hand to unveil the details.

Date: Wednesday, September 19
Time: Noon
Location: Bus shelter island at the northwest corner of Bay and Queen

Toronto is set to join approximately 1,000 towns and cities throughout the
world that will participate in the September 22 International Car Free Day.
Toronto's participation is the first of its kind in North America. Car Free Day
is a rapidly growing global movement aimed at reducing the dominance of the
automobile in the urban environment.

The Sierra Club/City of Toronto Car Free Day 2001 is supported financially by
the Toronto Atmospheric Fund, the Toronto Community Foundation and Environment
Canada. Event sponsors include Citytv/Cable24, NOW Magazine, CIUT, CKLN and
GRASSROOTS environmental products.
