Toronto honours Agnes Macphail
Parks and Recreation Division - Members of the media are invited to
attend the official dedication ceremony for Agnes Macphail Square. The
ceremony, scheduled to take place on the birthday of Ms. Macphail who was born
in 1890, will be presided over by local Councillor and Deputy Mayor Case Ootes,
MP Dennis Mills, and representatives from the Agnes Macphail Committee and
Toronto Parks and Recreation.

Light refreshments to follow at East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Avenue.

Among her many accomplishments, Agnes Macphail was the first woman to sit in
the House of Commons when she was elected in 1921. She also became the first
woman elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1943.
