City of Toronto completes delivery of next generation Green Bins to households across Toronto
Today marks the final day of the City-wide Green Bin rollout for households that receive daytime curbside collection. Since the rollout began in April 2016, more than 430,000 new Green Bins have been delivered across Toronto.

The City will continue delivery to nighttime curbside customers, newly constructed residences and apartments above commercial properties over the next few months. All deliveries will be completed by the end of January 2018.

"These new Green Bins are bigger and better than ever. We've been able to use the latest technology to provide residents with a new and improved bin," said Mayor John Tory. “The rollout of the next generation of bins to homes across the city has been a huge success and I know residents appreciate their increased resistance to Toronto’s animal population.”

The next generation Green Bin was designed to be easy to use, animal resistant and suitable for automated and semi-automated collection. The bin was tested by an animal behaviour specialist and features a latch with a gravity lock that opens automatically when the bin is lifted and tipped into the truck. The new Green Bin is also larger than the original bin with a capacity of almost 100 litres.

"The Green Bin program is an important part of Toronto's waste management system and is integral to helping the City reach its goal of diverting 70 per cent of waste by 2026,” said Councillor Jaye Robinson (Ward 25 Don Valley West), Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. "The size of the new Green Bin allows for even more organics to be diverted away from landfill."

Residents who are having issues with a new Green Bin or have not received their new Green Bin should call 311.
