Northwood Community Centre Advisory Council Annual General Meeting | | | | |
Angela James, former member of the Canadian National Women's Hockey team and
director of recreation at Seneca College will be the guest of honour at the
Northwood Community Centre Advisory Council Annual General Meeting. The
meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at Northwood
Community Centre, 15 Clubhouse Court (north of Sheppard between Jane St. and
Keele St. off Arleta.)
Angela James will draw on her years of experience in womens hockey in her talk,
Break-away: Increasing Young Women?s Participation in Recreation and Sports.
James will identify the barriers that prevent women from participation in
recreation. There will also be a discussion on how communities can mobilize to
eliminate these barriers.
The Northwood Community Centre Advisory Council advises the Parks and
Recreation Department about recreation services at Northwood Community Centre
and on the development of recreation facilities and surrounding parks. The
Council also facilitates communication between the Parks and Recreation
Department and the community, hosting forums and speakers on a variety of
issues.
The Council will also be holding elections at this meeting. Community
residents are welcome to participate on the Council. To be eligible for
election, a resident must live in the area bounded by: Keele Street,
Grandravine Avenue, Jane Street and Downsview Dells.
