Media Advisory - City of Toronto officially opens Bill Johnston Park

Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone (Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina), members of the late Bill Johnston’s family, and Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation will officially open Bill Johnston Park. A sign dedicating the park to Mr. Johnston will also be unveiled.

Date: Tuesday, August 29
Time: 11 a.m. to noon
Location: 65 Western Battery Rd. (entrance is off Strachan Ave. via East Liberty St.)

Bill Johnston was a strong and compassionate advocate for his local neighbourhood and worked on numerous community projects, including the closure of a lead smelter, the institution of library services, and the development of community gardens - including the garden at the Garrison Flats.

Bill Johnston Park features an array of shrubs, trees and seating areas, and is complemented by a cedar living wall. It will be just one of many parks planned for the Liberty Village area, a new development by the CanAlfa Group.
