Media Advisory - City of Toronto jobs and programs put youth onto career path

Mayor David Miller, City Manager Shirley Hoy and Parks, Forestry and Recreation General Manager Brenda Librecz will join Grade 8 students from Lawrence Heights Middle School to highlight that the City’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division has lowered its hiring age to 14 years for select recreation jobs, providing a tangible opportunity for many of the city’s youth.

The Grade 8 students will participate in hands-on, interactive activities to demonstrate teamwork, skills and self-confidence that youth acquire in leadership development programs offered by Parks, Forestry and Recreation.

Date: Monday, May 29
Time: 10 a.m.
Place: Lawrence Heights Community Centre, 5 Replin Rd.
(just east of Allen Road, north of Lawrence Avenue West)

Mayor Miller will help launch TPS Week by proclaiming May 29 to June 2 as “Toronto Public Service Week.” The City is hosting this event and other events, presentations, demonstrations and displays throughout the week to showcase the role that the Toronto Public Service plays in delivering City services to Toronto residents, businesses and visitors.
