City announces winners of the 2006 Trillium Garden Awards
The City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division proudly announced the winners of the annual Scarborough District 2006 Trillium Garden Awards last night at a ceremony at the Scarborough Civic Centre. The contest recognizes the community of Scarborough’s outstanding front gardens.

This year, 247 residential and commercial gardens were nominated for consideration. Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation recognized 20 residential and two commercial properties for their outstanding front garden displays and contribution to the beautification of the community.

The winners are: Ellas Hospitality Centre, Christine Kreutzer, Doreen Rouse, Jim and Tina Strezos, Rhonda and Larry Kosowan, Monica Simpson, Janina Witkowski, Barbara Shearer, Paul Mavrou, Lenora Godwin and Ron Young, Shannon and Robert Hogan, Elaine and Cliff Taylor, Jewell Campeau, Annie C.S. Ng and Ping S. Ng, Errol Daw, Manuel and Patria Paguiligan, Sandra and Ulric Adams, Catherine and John Lanktree, John and Dorothy McKay, Sister’s Eatery, Inn-byoung Kim, and Jean Cope.

All gardens were judged in a variety of criteria including design, use of plant material, condition and maintenance, hard landscaping, environmental practices, community contribution and distinction. Gardens were recognized in Residential-Traditional, Residential-Environmental/ Alternative, and Commercial and Industrial categories.

The winners will go on to compete for honours in the 2007 City-wide Garden Contest.

The Trillium Gardens Contest is a successful partnership between Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, the Agincourt Garden Club and the Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society.
