Media Advisory - Classic bicycle race in High Park

Toronto’s classic bicycle race returns to High Park on the eve of the official launch of Bike Week 2006. The City of Toronto and community partner ZM Cycle and Fitness are bringing amateur and professional racing to High Park.

Date: Sunday, May 28
Time: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: High Park

Professional and amateur cyclists from across the province will arrive in Toronto to race around a challenging and scenic course through High Park. Including a Family Loop, bicycle courier and bicycle shop owner races, the competition will vary from casual to very high paced, competitive racing. The event will also feature a community festival area with local cycling, environmental and community interest groups.

Through its involvement in this event, the City of Toronto demonstrates its leadership in promoting cycling events and marketing the city as a cycling destination as outlined in the Toronto Bike Plan.

The Toronto Bike Plan establishes a vision for cycling in Toronto, shifting gears towards a more bicycle-friendly city. The plan outlines recommendations regarding safety, education, promotion and infrastructure.
