Media Advisory - The world comes to Toronto City hosts Metropolis 2006
  
From June 12 to 16, delegates from more than 30 cities will gather in Toronto to engage in discussions about urban management issues, including transportation management, sustainable development, and promoting creativity and innovation of cities. Metropolis - Toronto 2006, is a week-long international event, jointly organized by the City of Toronto and the World Association of Major Metropolises (Metropolis).

In addition to the Metropolis Board of Directors’ meeting, the City of Toronto will also host the Separate Meetings of the Metropolis Standing Commissions on Eco-Regions, Financing Urban Services and Infrastructure, and Urban Mobility Management. All meetings will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel. Over the course of the week, delegates will also participate in seminars on infrastructure financing and management, and will have the opportunity to visit Union Station, MaRS Discovery District and Rouge Park.

Wednesday, June 14
7 p.m. Welcome Reception - remarks by Toronto Mayor David Miller and Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay

Thursday, June 15

Interview opportunities are available. A Media Room, including internet access, will also be available to the media from Thursday, June 15 to Friday, June 16 at the Intercontinental Hotel. Computers will not be provided.

A member for almost 20 years, the City of Toronto has been actively involved with Metropolis, and currently holds the post of Vice-President of the Metropolis Standing Commission on Eco-Regions. In 2005, at the last annual Board of Director’s meeting in Berlin, Toronto agreed to host Metropolis 2006.
