Media Advisory - Mayor Miller goes to bat for the public sector in cricket match against media

Mayor David Miller will join Toronto public sector cricketers in taking on the media in Toronto’s second annual Celebration of Cricket. This year’s event will include teams from the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, Toronto Sun, City TV, ATN and OMNI, as well as Toronto consular representatives.

Date: Saturday, June 24
Times: Children and youth game starts at 9 a.m.
Official ceremony at 11 a.m.
Adult game starts at 11:30 a.m.
Location: Sunnybrook Park (Leslie/Eglinton), 1132 Leslie St.

A junior cricket competition sponsored by Bell Canada for children under 12 and youth under 17 will be followed by a series of exhibition matches limited to “5 Overs” between Toronto’s major media organizations and the public sector service, including the Mayor’s X1, the Toronto Police Service and the Toronto Transit Commission.

The games will wrap up with the presentation of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Canada Mayor’s Trophy and the CIMA Canada Media Trophy to winners in the respective team groups.

Organized by CIMA Canada, Bell Canada and Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation’s Access and Equity Unit, the second annual Celebration of Cricket showcases an increasingly popular sport among Toronto residents.
