Mayor David Miller names panel to review salary recommendations for Toronto politicians

Mayor David Miller today announced the three-member panel that will review an independent consultant’s recommendations of salaries for Members of Council.

Former Newfoundland Premier and Federal MP Brian Tobin, who now lives in Toronto, is chairing the panel.

“I’m pleased this panel has agreed to review the recommendations of the consultant’s report from an outsiders’ perspective,” said Mayor Miller.

In May, the City’s Employee and Labour Relations Committee adopted the report from Mercer Human Resource Consulting regarding the compensation review for elected officials and asked the mayor to assemble an expert panel to obtain opinions on the report. The panel’s findings will ensure that the resolution of this issue is open, and fairly addresses the concerns of all Torontonians.

The panel members are:
  • Hon. Brian V. Tobin, P.C., ICD.D (Chair)
  • Ellen Malcolmson, Senior VP Customer Experience, Bell Canada
  • Ian D. Clark, President of the Council of Universities.

The panel’s review is expected to be completed within two weeks.
