Media Advisory - Official announcement of the construction of new Fire Station 116
Councillor David Shiner (Ward 24 - Willowdale) and Toronto Fire Chief Bill Stewart will launch the official announcement of the construction of new Fire Station 116.

Date: Thursday, September 21
Time: 3:30 p.m.
Location: 2755 Old Leslie St. (will change to 1 Esther Shiner Blvd.)

“I am very proud to participate in the official kick-off with the construction of Toronto’s newest Fire Station 116,” said Councillor David Shiner. “Over the past 10 years, I have worked with the Fire Chief to find a location and approve funding for this new fire station. Today, we can celebrate with the residents of Willowdale the fact that hard work pays off. By next year, this Fire Station will be up and running, reducing the emergency response time in our community.”

Construction has recently started on City of Toronto Fire Station 116 located at the southwest corner of Leslie Street and the new Esther Shiner Boulevard.

It is the culmination of several years of planning by the Toronto Fire Services. The site was created by converting a municipal site into a community-oriented facility. The current needs of the community are growing as former commercial lands are undergoing redevelopment. With contemporary architectural design, Fire Station 116 will reinforce the importance of the site as a gateway to new developments.

The station itself will house a full-time firefighting crew along with fire prevention offices. In addition, the new fire station will be able to host community meetings and events.

It is being constructed immediately west of North York General Hospital. It will respond to emergencies within and beyond the Willowdale community, as well as provide quick access to the 401 and the Sheppard subway line.
