Nominations close for November 13 City of Toronto election
The deadline of 5 p.m. today passed with a total of 464 candidates registering for the positions of mayor, city councillor and school board trustee for the City of Toronto election on November 13. There are 84 seats to be filled -- one mayor, 44 councillors and 39 school board trustees. There were 345 candidates in the 2003 municipal election.

There are 38 candidates registered for mayor (there were 44 in 2003), 278 candidates registered for city councillor (199 in 2003), and 148 candidates running for trustee in the four Toronto school boards (English public, English separate, French public and French separate). In 2003, 102 people registered for school board trustee.

A total of 38 candidates registered today. There were 59 registrations in 2003.

The official list of candidates, including all acclamations and withdrawals, will be released after 5 p.m. on Monday, October 2.

Weekday advance voting runs from Monday, October 23 to Wednesday, November 1 at City Hall, the East York, Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough Civic Centres and the Maria A. Shchuka MAS Library from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Weekend advance voting takes place at one location in each ward on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On election day, November 13, voting places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters do not need a special reason to vote at advance voting locations. In late October, voters will receive a voter information card that tells them where to vote on election day and during advance voting on Nov. 4 and 5. Voters are also reminded to check if their name is on the voters’ list by calling 416-338-1111. For TTY service please call 416-338-0889.
