Media Advisory - Empringham Park renamed in honour of Shawn Rose
Mayor David Miller, Councillor Raymond Cho (Ward 42 Scarborough-Rouge River) and representatives of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation will officially rename Empringham Park, the Shawn “Blu” Rose Park. Shawn, a long-time resident of the Malvern community and youth worker, passed away in November 2005 after suffering a brain aneurysm. Before passing away, Shawn spent 12 years co-ordinating youth programs and serving as a mentor for young people at the Malvern Community Centre.

Date: Sunday, August 13
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (ceremony at 2:30 p.m.)
Location: 30 Empringham Dr.

A public consultation was held in March where more than 200 residents of the community spoke of Shawn with high regard and were unanimous in their support of the renaming of Empringham Park. A petition in support of the renaming was signed by more than 250 residents of the Malvern community.

The park renaming event includes greetings from Mayor Miller and Councillor Cho, an official ribbon cutting ceremony, children’s activities, music and entertainment, youth games and community barbecue.
