Media Advisory - 7th annual Doors Open Toronto kick-off and Humanitas Festival launch
Join Mayor David Miller, City of Toronto Poet Laureate Pier Giorgio Di Cicco, NOW Magazine’s Alice Klein and CBC Radio One 99.1 host Garvia Bailey, along with a variety of Toronto artists for the combined 7th annual Doors Open Toronto kick-off and Humanitas Festival launch event. Admission is free.

Date: Friday, May 26
Time: 6 to 9 p.m. (official remarks by Mayor Miller at 6:25 p.m.)
Location: “Cooler By The Lake Tent” (foot of Yonge Street, at the water’s edge)

The event includes performances by Autorickshaw (Indian Fusion Jazz), The Pocket Dwellers (Rap/Funk/Jazz) the Nathaniel Dett Chorale (Afrocentric Choral Music) and Zaki Ibrahim (Soul). Rap artist MC Abdominal starts the evening with a live performance of what could be Toronto’s unofficial anthem “T.Ode.”

Doors Open Toronto, a signature event of Toronto Culture and Live with Culture, takes place one weekend, once a year in May. Residents and visitors have an opportunity to explore spaces and places in over 140 buildings of architectural, historic or cultural significance. Many venues are not often open to the public. Admission is free. Visit for event information and a gallery of photos for media use (click on “About Us” and then “Media”).

The Humanitas Festival is a month-long cultural festival (from May 26 to June 25) of what was, is and could be Toronto. The festival will be an energetic, kinetic series of events, forums, exhibitions, stories, performances, debates that illustrate and animate how Toronto’s creative energy is deeply rooted in its history and diversity. Visit for details. The Humanitas Festival, presented by NOW Magazine, is a signature event of Toronto Culture and Live With Culture.
