Media Advisory - Medventuree 2006 - Toronto EMS MedVents host Scouts Canada MedVent groups from across Ontario at Woodland Scout Camp

The Toronto EMS MedVents are hosting a major event for all MedVent groups across Ontario this weekend. MedVents from York Region, Durham Region, Peel Region, Ottawa, Kitchener, Windsor as well as paramedics from their respective services will be at the event. Well over 100 youth are expected to be in attendance this weekend.

Medical scenarios are planned for the various training levels of participants. Seminars, social events and displays of equipment, including Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) and York Region and Toronto ambulance vehicles will be staged in the main parking lot.

Members of the media are invited to the medical rescue scenarios taking place at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and for the HUSAR display at noon.

Date: Saturday, April 8
Time: 11 a.m to 4 p.m.
Place: Woodland Scout Camp, 14919 Kennedy Rd., Aurora, Ontario (just south of Aurora Road near Stouffville)

MedVents are Scouts Canada Medical Venturers and Rovers, aged 14-25 who specialize in emergency response medical training. In Toronto, the MedVents are sponsored by Toronto EMS as part of our youth outreach and recruitment program. Toronto EMS also sponsors High School First Responder programs across Toronto.

Young people from Toronto’s diverse communities take part in the MedVent program, learning emergency first response techniques, and working side-by-side with our paramedics providing first aid at special events, including the WinterCity Festival and the Celebrate Toronto Street Festival. Several MedVents have gone on to study paramedicine in college or university programs, including eight former MedVents who are currently working as paramedics for Toronto EMS.
