Media Advisory - City of Toronto welcomes delegates to XVI International AIDS Conference
Councillor Kyle Rae will hold a media briefing for reporters to discuss Toronto’s involvement in the XVI International AIDS Conference, as some 25,000 delegates and media descend on the city Aug. 13 - 18. In addition to the conference itself, there are numerous public events residents can participate in.

Date: Friday, August 11
Time: 11 a.m.
Place: Members’ Lounge, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

On August 10, the City of Toronto will fasten about 50 large red ribbons to trees lining University Ave. Toronto has a proud history in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The ribbons are an apt symbol of that fight.

In addition, hundreds of banners have been placed around the city, including banners that can be seen from the DVP and the Gardiner Expressway. As a further effort to transform the city and welcome participants, as well as highlight the conference to residents, City Hall will be illuminated in red each evening for the duration of the conference. A flower carpet, dedicated to the XVI International AIDS Conference, has also been installed at College Street and University Avenue.
