Media Advisory - D-Day 62nd anniversary event on Nathan Phillips Square
On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Canada took part in the invasion that marked the beginning of the liberation of France and the end of the Second World War.

The City of Toronto will commemorate the 62nd anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy on Tuesday, June 6 at 12:30 p.m. on Nathan Phillips Square, City Hall, 100 Queen St. W. at the stage and main flagpole.

Mayor David Miller will welcome veterans and the public to the event. Anyone may attend. A musical performance of wartime songs beginning at noon will lead to the 12:30 ceremony.

Participating honour guards at the City’s event include the Toronto Civic Honour Guard, Toronto Police Honour Guard, Toronto Firefighters’ War Veterans’ Colour Guard, Toronto Emergency Medical Services Honour Guard, Toronto Transit Commission Supervisory Honour Guard, the Royal Canadian Legion, Naval Club of Toronto, and the WREN Association of Toronto.

Bugler Nigel Soper will perform during the ceremony, and there will be a musical performance by Janet Watt, WREN Association of Toronto, and Leo Leach, Toronto Emergency Medical Services Honour Guard.
