Nineteen candidates vie for Ward 35 vacancy
Nineteen candidates have put their names forward to fill the Councillor vacancy in Ward 35. The position became vacant in June when incumbent Gerry Altobello was appointed to be a justice of the peace.

Any eligible elector in Toronto interested in filling the vacancy until Council’s term ends on Nov. 30, was required to attend a meeting last night at City Hall. Interested candidates had until noon today to file their nomination papers with the City.

The candidates for the ward vacancy (noted below) will now go to Scarborough Community Council on July 19 where individuals can depute and be asked questions by Councillors. The Community Council will vote to recommend appointees for City Council’s consideration.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 5 p.m., City Council as a whole, will consider the recommendation of the Scarborough Community Council and will vote to appoint a person to fill the vacancy. Candidates will have an opportunity, again, to depute and answer questions at that time.
