Water main break impacting phone service in Scarborough

Toronto residents living in northern Scarborough may be without telephone service this weekend due to a water main break that has disrupted service in the area. While the City of Toronto is repairing the water main - with water service expected to be back by Saturday morning - the broken main led to flooding, affecting Bell Canada customers in the area for an indeterminate period. Bell Canada technicians have been on site since the onset and are working to restore service as quickly as possible.

This disruption, however, means people without cellular telephones will not be able to access the 9-1-1 system in case of emergency. People living in the affected area, or people with relatives in the area who are ill, isolated or who do not have alternative telephone access, are asked to check on them this weekend or lend them their cell phones.

Residents in the area with cell phones are asked to keep a look out for their neighbours in case police, fire or EMS has to be called.
