Media Advisory: City to announce Bicycle Friendly Business Award winners
The City of Toronto will honour businesses that promote cycling at the 2006 Bicycle Friendly Business Awards ceremony.

Date: Thursday, October 5

6 p.m. Award presentations by selection panel members: Councillor Jane Pitfield; David Meslin, Founder, Toronto Public Space Committee; and Dr. Alan Walks, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography and Program in Planning, University of Toronto at Mississauga

6:30 p.m. Mayor David Miller

Location: Toronto City Hall, Rotunda

The following businesses and organizations will be recognized for their bicycle friendliness:

Best Bike Parking Award: Intelliware Development Inc.
Bicycle-Friendliest Suburban Business Award: CH2M Hill
Bicycle Commute Award: Mountain Equipment Cooperative
Best Small Business Award: Grassroots Environmental Products
Best Large Business Award: Canadian Tire (Yonge & Church)
Best Skills Development Award: Bike Roots
Best Overall Award: Community Bicycle Network

Mayor David Miller will also present a proclamation recognizing Messenger Appreciation Day (10-9 Day) to representatives of over 400 bike, foot and transit couriers for their role in encouraging sustainable alternatives to automobile traffic in Toronto.
