Media Advisory - Mayor David Miller helps launch new book about College Street/Little Italy

Mayor David Miller will join Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone in launching a new book celebrating one of Toronto’s most diverse and vibrant areas - College Street.

“College Street - Little Italy, Toronto’s Renaissance Strip” charts the history of a community that is a microcosm of the larger forces that created the diverse culture of today’s Toronto. Through immigration, College Street has evolved as Canada has evolved with each generation and ethnic group leaving its distinctive mark.

This anthology, richly illustrated with archival photos, is published by Mansfield Press, edited by Corrado Paina and Denis De Klerck, and is supported by the Gallery of Human Migration. It details the settlement of many ethnic groups (primarily Italian, Jewish and Portuguese). It reflects the architectural, natural, and urban footprint as well as the arts, culinary and high quality urban life for which Toronto’s Little Italy is renowned across North America.

Date: Friday, June 16
Time: 11:30 a.m.
Location: Mayor’s Office, Protocol Lounge, 2nd Floor, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.
