Media Advisory - City announces winners of the 2006 Green Toronto Awards
Mayor David Miller and Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, Chair of the Roundtable on the Environment, will announce the nine winners of the 2006 Green Toronto Awards. Each winner will be awarded $5,000. CP24’s Ann Rohmer, singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer and acclaimed actress Lisa Ray, will also participate in the awards ceremony.

Date: Tuesday, May 2
Time: 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Council Chamber, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

The 27 winners of the City’s 2006 Green Toronto Awards’ Environmental Awards of Excellence announced in March, are now vying for the title of Green Toronto Award winner, one for each of the nine categories:

Community Projects (sponsored by Loblaw Companies Limited): BikeShare; Brahms Energy Saving Team; Green Committee, Celebrity Place

Energy Conservation (sponsored by AutoShare): Enbridge Gas Distribution; Tridel; and Unilever Canada, Rexdale Plant

Environmental Awareness (sponsored by Toronto Hydro): EcoSchools Program; Green Tourism Association; Mountain Equipment Co-op

Green Design (sponsored by Roots): Mondial Energy Inc.; Thomas L. Wells Public School; Toronto Botanical Garden

Health (sponsored by ACE Bakery): Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market; HOOF&CYCLE; and Real Food for Real Kids

Leadership (sponsored by Toronto Community Foundation): Alice Mitchell, Toronto District School Board; Environmental Defence; and Jim Robb, Friends of the Rouge

Market Transformation (sponsored by Perfectly Natural): Bullfrog Power; Kevin McLaughlin, AutoShare; and redCity Search Company, Inc.
