No Expo bid for Toronto Federal, Provincial Governments Fail to Agree on Fiscal Framework

The Toronto 2015 World Expo Corporation released the following statement early this afternoon:

The deadline for submitting a bid to host the 2015 World Expo has passed and we regret to announce that the Government of Canada did not submit a letter of candidature on behalf of Toronto to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). We were hopeful right up to the last minute, but not only could the Federal and Provincial governments not reach an agreement on a fiscal framework for the bid, they could not agree on a mechanism for discussing and resolving the fiscal framework.

We deeply regret this lost opportunity for Toronto, Ontario and Canada. Expo Corp was prepared to mount a spectacular and winning bid on Toronto’s behalf, and we would have gone on to mount a great World Expo in the Canadian tradition of Expo 67 and Expo 86.
