Mayor David Miller congratulates Ottawa on World hockey win... but cautions Senators fans

Mayor David Miller today congratulated Ottawa on its successful bid to host the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship.

“I always believed we had an excellent bid, one that was accessible and full of terrific long-term city benefits,” said Mayor Miller. “All of the partners worked hard to bring this event to Canada’s unofficial hockey capital but regrettably the nation’s political capital will play host. I thank everyone involved in putting the Toronto bid together from both Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and the City’s Economic Development division.

Added the Mayor in the spirit of friendly rivalry: “While I’m pleased the event is coming to Ontario, I want to advise Ottawa hockey fans that this won’t be forgotten when next year’s NHL season gets under way.”
