Heralded as a "jewel on Jarvis" (Toronto Star),a "bravura piece of urbanism" (Toronto Life) and a "beacon on Toronto's architectural scene" (Globe and Mail). The Jarvis Street campus of Canada's National Ballet School is a dynamic blend of restored heritage buildings and transparent contemporary pavilions. The School's two-storey neoclassical Northfield House (Joseph Sheard, 1856), the mansion built for Sir Oliver Mowat, Ontario's longest serving Premier, and the Margaret McCain Academic building, restored Gothic Revival Queen Anne-style Havergal Ladies' College (George Miller, 1898 & 1901)and the Celia Franca Centre, the dance training centre are open to the public.

Event information:
Visitors will be taken on a tour in the historical buildings (now administrative offices + boardroom and the academic classrooms), the Betty Oliphant Theatre and have an opportunity to see the studios (with classes underway)and the school's wardrobe facility at the school. Sat. 11:30am author Linda Maybarduk reads from James the Dancing Dog (children, co-authored with Gillian Johnson), a heartwarming story based on a real dog at the National Ballet of Canada. Sun. 11:30 author Cary Fagan reads from Beyond the Dance: A Ballerina' Life (childre, co-authored with Chan Hon Goh), a first-hand look into the challenges a young dancer faces. Noon, Norma Sue Fisher-Stitt reads from the soon-to-be-published book Ballet Class: A History of Canada's National Ballet School (non-fiction). 12:30 Veronica Tennant reads from On Stage Please (YA). Prima Ballerina Tennant tells the story of a young girl's first steps in the world of dance. Tafelmusik performance on Sat. at 10:45am & 11:30am, Patricia Ahern-violin,Christopher Verrette-violin, Christina Mahler-cello.

Other information:
Entry to the building will require participants to climb a short flight of external steps. Another internal flight down will also be required to begin the tour.
