Constructed in 1907, this building was called the Railway Building and, until 1951, was used to promote Canada's foremost transportation system, the railway, through extensive displays, murals of Canada and stationary train setups. The Baroque classical style in which the Railway Building is designed had been popularized in North America by the World's Columbia Exposition at Chicago of 1893. This influence is evident in all of architect G.W. Gouinlock's other buildings on the CNE grounds: the Horticulture Building, the Press Building, the Medieval Times Building and the Fire Hall/Police Station. After 1951, the building was used for a number of other purposes, the most memorable being as home for the CNE Music Department. Between 1985 and 1987, the building was closed to the public. In 1987 it suffered a major fire, but was restored and reopened in 1991 as home to the CNE Seniors’ Centre and the Archives exhibit. Since 1997, the building has been occupied by corporate tenants such as Immersion Studios and the Fashion Incubator. In November 2007, it was rebranded as the CMHC EcoPods and has become the home of the Sustainable Condo Exhibit.

Event information:
As a result of a unique partnership between Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), EcoSmart Foundation and Exhibition Place, the Sustainable Condo Exhibit now has a home at Exhibition Place within the CMHC Eco Pods (former historic Music Building). The Sustainable Condo is a full-size living space that displays green technologies, sustainable products and Healthy Housing features that can help Canadians learn how to save money while reducing their impact on the environment.
