Formally opened on January 22, 1992, the City of Toronto Archives was designed by Zeidler Roberts Partnership to be a safe, secure and efficient archives, as well as an inviting research facility and a complement to its historic surroundings. Architectural highlights include: an ultra-modern, climate controlled storage area to accommodate 123,000 boxes; a skylit central atrium and exhibition area; pink terrazzo staircase; 60-seat theatre; and a two-storey, skylit Research Hall where researchers can access City records, photographs and maps.

Please visit the City of Toronto Archives on Saturday, May 24th and join Toronto’s archival community to participate in "Step Into Your Archives," part of Doors Open Toronto. You can partake in a full day of activities that include building tours, exhibits, theatre presentations and children’s programs. At the event, rarely-seen treasures from the archives will be on display, the conservation lab will be open, the Archives' new exhibition "A Work in Progress: Preserving Toronto's Architectural Record" will be free to browse, and hundreds of photographs and postcards of historic Toronto will be featured in the Archives' theatre. In coordination with the Toronto Area Archivists Group (TAAG), displays from other Toronto-area archives will be on exhibit. Interactive children's activities are ongoing throughout the day.
