Canada’s first purpose-built opera house was completed in 2006 and is the home of the Canadian Opera Company and The National Ballet of Canada. Highlights of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts include the world’s longest free span glass staircase and a horseshoe-shaped, European-style, 2,000-seat auditorium featuring phenomenal advancements in modern engineering and acoustical design. For more information visit www.coc.ca.

Event information:
Visitors can enjoy guided and self-guided tours of the opera house, investigating firsthand the architectural design of the building, its history and innovative acoustic design. Guided Tours are led by trained docents and include background information and access to the Isadore and Rosalie Sharp City Room and R. Fraser Elliott Hall.
Join Matthew Lella, an associate with Diamond and Schmitt Architects, as he discusses the process and design that created Canada’s acclaimed opera house. Lectures take place at 11:15 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and are followed by a screening of Raising Valhalla, a documentary that depicts the dual drama of the preparation of the building and the staging of the first Canadian production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Young people can explore opera and architecture through creative craft and design activities.
