The Gibson House was built in 1851 in the Georgian Revival style of architecture. The house was home to David and Eliza Gibson and their family. David was a local politician, a land surveyor and a farmer. The house is furnished to reflect a family living in rural Willow Dale, yet relatively close to Toronto. Visitors should make note of the gracious front entrance to the house with its fan light transom and side lights, as well as the interesting 'granited' walls and painted floorcloth. The hired man's room is accessible by way of its own staircase, and while comfortable, is furnished differently than the family bedrooms. Mrs. Gibson's kitchen is always bustling with activity and filled with delicious smells. It is almost possible to hear the family as they gather in the parlour, reading, sewing, or perhaps singing along with music played on the beautiful piano.

Event information:
Great family activities! In the historic house: Join in the fun and try to guess "what's wrong with the house?" - as you find objects that are not quite right for David and Eliza Gibson's 1851 farmhouse. Costumed interpreters will share the real story of the house, the Gibson family and their community. Children can lend a hand as our kitchen interpreter creates authentic nineteenth-century treats over the open-hearth in our historic kitchen. In the Discovery Gallery: Interactive games, activity boxes, dress-up area and weaving for children of all ages.
