MARCEL DUBÉ WAS ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FIGURES during Québécois theatre’s emancipation from the dark Duplessis years. His works are typified by an honest and simple poetic voice, reflective of a daily and a social reality that never cease to surprise by their lasting relevance. Zone is an exploration of misdirected youth. Moineau, Tit-Noir, Passe-Partout, and Ciboulette form the Tarzan Gang, smuggling along the Canada-US border, until one of them does the unthinkable. The drama of the piece stems from an unattainable dream: “He wanted out of a certain zone of society where human happiness is almost impossible,” explains the chief of police.

2/18/2012 I am a Healthy Vegan Detox Day Downtown $30 - $39

11am – 1:30pm (co-ed) ADD VEGAN & VEGETARIAN FOODS TO YOUR LIFE WITHOUT BECOMING 100% VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN. The work in the exhibition continues the artist’s practice of reexamining historical, site-specific layers, particularly the imaging of postwar North American diversions from cabaret to sports. Achieving verisimilitude, Douglas reconstructed a studio using authentic equipment as well as hired actors to produce staged photographs that emulate the period’s obsession with noir-ish drama, magic, dance, sporting events, curious artifacts, fashion, “caught-in-the-moment” scenes, gambling, and, of course, shifting technologies. Curated by Sarah Quinton, Veiled focuses on three contemporary artists, whose work includes video, performance, sculpture and installation, building on the Textile Museum’s investigations of the flow of contemporary expression in a globalized context. Andrew McPhail, Grace Ndiritu and Tazeen Qayyum use the idea of a veil as a poetic device for the investigation of public vs. private space, protection and intimacy. Written for the king of Prussia, an ardent amateur ‘cellist, K. 589 is truly democratic, distributing the musical load amongst all four players. Alongside these works we present Luigi Boccherini’s quartet, op. 52 no. 4 in F minor. Boccherini, a virtuoso ‘cellist, offers yet another perspective on musical relationships in the quartet.

02/19/2012 Simple Plan Downtown

MuchMusic presents the 2012 Canadian Simple Plan tour in support of their gold-certified album Get Your Heart On!.
